Description

Volunteers to support our mission to provide health care to uninsured adults through in-person interpreting between clinic volunteers and Spanish-speaking patients.  Interested individuals are asked to volunteer at least one evening every other month (or more often if they wish).

Volunteer Should Provide

Ability to provide spoken English-Spanish interpretation between clinic volunteers and patients.  Familiarity with general medical terms (i.e., body parts, health problems, etc.) with sufficient self-confidence to ask the physician or nurse to simplify a complex explanation or provide alternate wording in order to accurately interpret into Spanish. Self-confidence also needed to ask patients to explain differently any unfamiliar issues in order to accurately interpret their needs for the healthcare provider. 

Agency Will Provide

Introduction to Clinic site and processes; mentor for orientation/onboarding to role; explanation of HIPAA and other legal requirements for maintaining patient confidentiality
