Join us as we reset the kids' play zone and community garden.

1 -Wood chip in the kids’ Play area- Using the provided Wheelbarrow and tools, the volunteers will move the Donated Wood chips to the back area of the garden, the kid's play zone. All wood chips should be raked and spread over the entire area.

2- Create a stone border around the herb garden.  Using the provided gloves, the volunteers will spread out landscaping fabric to create a weed barrier and move small stones and create a border around the already existing herb garden.

3- Manage Compost – Gardens often create a significant amount of lawn waste, which we recycle by turning it into compost. To ensure the compost remains healthy, it requires continuous management. This means that the organic materials need to be flipped and moved monthly. Volunteers will be provided with the necessary tools to turn and move the compost pile. Adding this compost to the garden will introduce helpful bacteria, which can improve food production and reduce expenses.

Join the Children's Home of Reading (CHOR) for a variety of low impact, indoor projects, including:

- Sorting clothes for our Nurse Family Partnership.  Packaging outfits by size, labeling and organizing for our youngest population.  

- Prepare holiday mailings for our donors.

- Share the need for Foster Care families by hanging up posters, dial a friend or contact businesses to see how we can get the word out to their employees.

- Help to brainstorm and contact employers to offer a career exploration tour for our foster and residential youth.

- Sorting the games and cards to make sure they are complete from all the units

Join the Children's Home of Reading for hands-on, outdoor projects, including:

- Wash windows and doors, walls and outside the buildings with the pressure washer.

- Sweep the stairwells in all buildings.

- Weed flowerbeds and prepare for fall planting.

- Pick up trash and sticks around the property.

- Wash the vans and cars inside and outside.

- Paint project:  outside shed, prime doors and windows for decals.

- Install privacy window cling in cafeteria and other places throughout residential.

Join the City of Reading for a morning paint project! We will be painting the bridge and guard rails behind RACC, covering graffiti.

Join Habitat for Humanity in a local home build. Volunteers will be doing hands-on tasks including, but not limited to, framing, siding, roofing, painting, landscaping, drywall installation, and trim. 

**Exact location of the jobsite will be shared with volunteers closer to the project date. The jobsite will be in the Reading Area**
