Year-Round Engagement: UGI Utilities, Inc.

UGI Utilities ReadapaloozaUnited Way’s success is due to the dedication of the people of Berks County and to the people and organizations who adopt the LIVE UNITED spirit throughout the entire year. UGI Utilities, Inc is one of those organizations.

UGI’s dedication to spread the LIVE UNITED message is evident through their Community Relations team and their work to ensure UGI employees have the opportunity make a difference in our community. UGI Utilities provides opportunities for their employees to get involved with various agencies, and they partner with many United Way of Berks County agencies. They have prepared lunch and collected food and toiletry items for Opportunity House, hosted a rock painting night for Big Brother/Big Sisters COUL kids, installed smoke alarms with the Red Cross and much more. They also sponsor a veteran’s event, which benefits the Veteran’s Social Center, an organization for veterans located in the lower part of the Hope Rescue Mission building, where they also volunteer. Thea Phallon, Community Relations Manager, believes it is important to provide volunteer opportunities for their employees because, “People are looking for ways to get involved and engaged.” She continues, “and it also great to see that supervisors are working alongside their staff in the various projects.”

The employees of UGI are grateful for the opportunities UGI provides for them to get involved in their community. Matt Lowther, an active member of United Way’s Emerging Leaders United group, shared, “Giving back to the community is one of the best things someone can do. I am grateful to work for a company that provides us with opportunities to get involved.”

UGI Utilities Volunteer GroupUGI continues to LIVE UNITED as they plan to collect school supplies to be donated to United Way. Lori Hoffman, Community Relations Coordinator, shared, “We wanted to donate the supplies to United Way because they are able to provide them to those who have the greatest need in our community.” Not only is UGI encouraging the collection, they are also hosting an “Office Olympics” where in order to participate in the Minute to Win It type competition, teams must collect a minimum dollar amount of school supplies and there is a special award for the team who raises the most money for school supplies. It is sure to be a great night as UGI employees cheer on their fellow coworkers competing to win the Office Olympics.

UGI’s calendar continues to be filled with opportunities for their team to make a difference in their community. They are planning on participating in United Way’s Day of Caring and continuing to provide meals for Opportunity House. The LIVE UNITED spirit is sure to continue due to the hearts of those who work at UGI. Lori Hoffman shares why she enjoys the work she does by saying, “This isn’t only my job, it is my passion.”
