Jewish Family Service, in partnership with Helping Harvest and the Reading Hampden Heights Seventh Day Adventist Church, holds a monthly food pantry for individuals and families who are eligible for Penna. Bureau of Food Distribution.This pantry is located at Reading Hampden Heights SDA Church 2706 Old Pricetown Rd. Temple. from 9:00-11:00 AM.
The pantry is currently being operated as a drive-through operation, minimizing contact and keeping volunteers and clients safe. Clients stay in their vehicles and open their trunks. The trunks are then filled with pre-packed boxes of shelf-stable food, bags of produce, bags of refrigerator items, and bags of frozen meats.
September is Hunger Awareness Month. Volunteer organizations are invited to collect shelf-stable, healthy food for distribution at the pantry.
Healthy food donation list: Low sodium canned vegetables
Canned fruits in 100 % juice or lite syrup
Low sodium or water packed canned chicken, tuna, salmon
Dried beans, peas, and lentils
Low sodium canned beans and peas
Whole wheat pasta, barley, rice
Whole grain cereal and rolled oats
Low sodium peanut butter
Volunteers are needed at 8:30 am – 11:00 am to pre-pack bags of groceries and to help load the cars.
