Neighborhood Housing Services of Reading (NHS) provides three basic services to help improve home-ownership opportunities and neighborhoods in Reading and Berks County. The Neighborhood Building Initiative works with resident groups of Reading neighborhoods to take steps to improve the quality of life in those neighborhoods. The HomeOwnership Center provides homebuyer education services, and assists first-time homeowners access the financial resources needed to purchase a home. The Rehabilitation Department creates affordable housing options in Reading and Berks County, both through rehabilitation and repair programs, and through new construction.

Therefore: The mission of Neighborhood Housing Services of Reading (NHS) is to facilitate and provide `affordable housing' programs and initiatives that will expand home ownership opportunities for all people of Berks County, especially low- to moderate-income families, and will contribute to the revitalization of our neighborhoods and the greater community.
